Charlottesville’s live music centers on the Downtown Mall, where the Jefferson Theater and the Paramount Theater sit a block apart, Ting Pavilion closes the east end, and bars and restaurants book local bands. Big tours play John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia. In summer, the free Fridays After Five concerts fill the pavilion every Friday evening.

The Jefferson Theater books national touring acts, tribute bands and themed dance parties; some nights are 18 and up, and its calendar marks which.
The Paramount Theater mixes concerts with films, family shows and the Charlottesville Symphony, which plays some Sunday matinees there. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and one hour before each show.
Ting Pavilion is the city’s outdoor amphitheater. Its free Fridays After Five series marked its 38th season in 2026, every Friday from 5:30 p.m. between April 17 and Sept. 11; volunteers from local nonprofits run the concessions and share in the proceeds. As of Oct. 19 the pavilion’s site said “See you next season.”
The Southern Café and Music Hall runs a busy calendar of smaller shows, and many listings are marked “Free Show” on its site.
