State report card

Virginia rates schools two ways. Accreditation checks that a school has the programs, staff and facilities the state’s Standards of Accreditation require. The newer School Performance and Support Framework gives each school a score with a target of 80 points; points are “assigned based on items ranging from test scores to attendance,” and the measures differ for high schools, the division explained when the results came out Oct. 7.

  • Accreditation, 2025-26: Fully Accredited
  • Framework score: 83.43, rated Approaching Expectations, in the division summary. The division says a school drops one level when at least one student group is identified as needing targeted support, which is why some schools above 80 points are not rated Meets Expectations.
  • On-time graduation: 90%. Of 391 students in the 2025-26 cohort, 350 graduated, 203 of them with an advanced diploma and 142 with a standard diploma; 17 dropped out.

Standards of Learning pass rates (share of tested students who passed):

Subject 2023-24 2024-25 2025-26
English reading 71% 73% 73%
Math 80% 89% 85%
Science 67% 65% 67%

In 2025-26, 582 students (40%) took an Advanced Placement test, up from 500 in 2023-24. The full profile also reports attendance, college enrollment, career credentials and teacher data.

Attendance zone and feeder schools

The whole city is one high school zone. According to the division’s attendance zones page, students go from their neighborhood elementary school to Charlottesville Middle School (grades 6-8) and then to CHS. Students who live outside the city can apply to attend as nonresident students; see the enrollment hub.

The division’s elementary rezoning plan, which takes effect in stages in August 2027 and August 2029 at the earliest, changes only elementary zones and does not affect which high school city students attend.

Calendar and bell times

From the division’s 2026-27 calendar:

  • Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 2-3: no school for students (staff days; Nov. 3 is Election Day)
