Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027, and the first confirmed event is the Charlottesville Symphony’s “Love, Beethoven” weekend: Saturday night at Old Cabell Hall at the University of Virginia and a Sunday matinee on Valentine’s Day at the Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall. Monday, Feb. 15, is Presidents Day, so many families have a three-day weekend.

Charlottesville Symphony: Love, Beethoven

The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia built its February Masterworks program around love. Guest conductor Ken-David Masur leads, with his wife, pianist Melinda Lee Masur, as soloist. The program:

  • Beethoven, Overture to “Fidelio”
  • Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 4
  • Beethoven, Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral”

Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Old Cabell Hall on the UVA Lawn, with tickets through the UVA Arts Box Office; and Sunday, Feb. 14, at 3:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theater, 215 E. Main St., with tickets through the Paramount. The Paramount box office is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and one hour before each show, at 434-979-1333.

Childcare for a night out

The Virginia Discovery Museum, 524 E. Main St., runs Date Night Drop-Off on select Fridays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. for children 4 to 11 who can use the bathroom on their own. Children bring a nut-free bagged meal and a labeled water bottle, and registration closes two days before. Upcoming dates listed as of Oct. 19 were Nov. 6 and Dec. 11; a February date had not been posted.

Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15

  • City offices: closed, on the Parks and Recreation holiday hours sheet. Carver, Key, Smith and Tonsler recreation centers are open; Crow is closed.
  • Schools: Charlottesville City Schools is closed; Feb. 15 is a paid holiday on the 2026-27 calendar.
  • Trash: Presidents Day is not one of the city’s trash holidays, so pickup runs as usual.
