15 Mexican restaurants and taco places inside Charlottesville city limits: West Main Street, Belmont, the Downtown Mall, 5th Street SW and Emmet Street.

Last checked Oct. 19, 2026. Refreshed every three months.

Charlottesville’s Mexican restaurants are spread across the city, with the largest group on West Main Street between downtown and the University of Virginia. There are two in Belmont, one on the Downtown Mall, and the rest on 5th Street SW, East Market Street, Emmet Street, Barracks Road and Carlton Road.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Charlottesville’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 19, 2026. El Comalito and Guadalajara on East Market Street have no working website, so we confirmed them in the Virginia Department of Health’s food inspection records, which list both as permitted this year. We left out Brazos Tacos and Continental Divide, whose sites would not load and whose latest state inspections are from 2024 or 2025; Plaza Azteca, whose site was down; and the Guadalajara on Fontaine Avenue, which we could not confirm. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.
